5 Tips for Your DIY Paint Job

There’s so much to think about when you want to paint a building, and one question people always consider is; do you call in the professionals or do you do it yourself? There can be a lot to think about if you’re considering a DIY paint job, and if you don’t do it right, disaster could ensue! Painting a home or otherwise can be a time-consuming and tedious task…but it doesn’t always have to be. There are a number of tried and true DIY painting hacks out there to make the job easier, some that the professionals at T Fisher Painters make use of daily to create your new perfect and pristine paint job. Here are just a few.

Away with nasty paint fumes!

Does the smell of fresh paint make you feel a tad off-colour? Adding a few drops of vanilla essence to your tin of paint will diminish those unpleasant paint fumes and make the area smell delightfully like vanilla.

Make tin foil your friend

The thought of cleaning all the painting equipment can be enough to turn anyone off the thought of painting. To ease the pain, wrap tinfoil around the paint tray, covering it entirely. Once you’re done, carefully take off the foil, and simply throw it away, leaving your paint tray virtually clean. Too easy!

Prep the surface with a cloth mop

Dust and debris on walls provides a bad foundation for your new paint, and if you don’t get rid of it before painting, the end result could be disappointing. Use a cloth mop to get rid of all the nasties and achieve the best possible outcome!

Cleaning your paint brushes the easy way

Put your paint brushes in a jar of warm water with fabric softener to clean them straight after using. Otherwise, if the paint has dried and caked onto the bristles, place the paintbrush in a jar of vinegar to clean it, then rinse with warm water.

Prevent unwanted marks

If you’re painting a windowsill or similar, use Vaseline to provide a protective covering over screws or other hardware, so you don’t get any paint on them in the process.

If you think that it’s all a bit much to think of when it comes to painting – the prep, the cleaning, the effort and time commitment – call in the professionals to help! Take the stress out of painting your home, office or other building. Save time, money and tears and get in touch with T Fisher Painters to do the job for you.
